About V-KOOL 40
V-KOOL 40 (VK40) is the performance leader in the V-Kool architectural film series. With 64.53% total solar energy rejection and 98.3% infrared rejection, VK40 delivers the most aggressive heat control in the lineup — while maintaining 42.8% visible light transmission, a level that reads as lightly tinted rather than dark. At that VLT, the glass preserves meaningful natural light even as it blocks nearly all of the infrared heat spectrum.
VK40 is the V-Kool specification when glare reduction and maximum heat control are the primary drivers and some visible tinting is acceptable. For Philadelphia's west-facing commercial glass — the Category 1 solar load exposure that creates afternoon hotspots on Center City office floors from noon onward — VK40 resolves the heat and glare problem more completely than any other product in the series. Facilities managers who have tried VK70 or VK55 on severely sun-loaded west-facing floors and found them insufficient often move to VK40 for the additional performance margin.
For residential applications, VK40 addresses rowhomes facing western or southern orientations where afternoon sun makes rooms uncomfortable even after standard solar film installation. Sun-drenched Passyunk Square rooms, west-facing Fishtown living rooms, and south-facing Society Hill sunrooms where fading of hardwood floors and upholstery is a documented problem are appropriate applications for VK40. The 98.3% infrared rejection stops the heat, and the 99% UV block stops the fade.
All V-KOOL 40 specifications are NFRC-tested on 3mm single-pane clear glass. VK40 carries the same lifetime residential warranty and 10-year commercial warranty as the rest of the V-Kool series from Eastman.
